All the signs are here of commitment to fresh, seasonal produce. First, the flexible blackboard menu, adjusted as daily-made dishes come and go in this bright, lively venue with patio eating outside on the lawn. There is a fresh tasting potato, leek and cracked pepper soup, well-flavoured with aromatic herbs and proper stock . A plateful of Arran cheddar, courgette and lentil roulade with an interesting seasonal salad platter, including strawberries. Why not?

The menu selection caters for a mix of eating preferences from eclectic-adventurous to homely-traditional. Roast loin of lamb with rosemary and garlic is served with minted potato cake; fillet or sirloin steak with baked potatoes and salad along with Lochranza whisky or pepper sauce; Blackwaterfoot black pudding in tempura batter with sweet and sour sauce; summer pudding with mango sauce.
