A large self service restaurant has been created in the old servants' hall of the castle with tables also available in fine weather on the terrace. There is a daily changing menu with a wide variety of dishes. Homely main courses such as stews and pies use Arran meat while there are also a good selection of hot puddings. Dark red juices from a mixture of summer berries, on one occasion, oozed through a crunchy crumble topping. There was a rustic tomato and lentil soup served with a cheese scone and butter. A two course lunch might work out at about £5-£8.

The restaurant has a table license. Avoid peak eating times in high summer, especially if there are coach tours, when queues may build up. On fine days it's a useful tearoom stop combined with a walk through the castle gardens. Not to be missed is the Victorian castle kitchen.

Open daily, 11am-5pm April 1 - 31 October (or Good Friday if earlier) and winter weekends. Gardens open all year. Entry Fee £4.80 concession £3.20.
