BRODICK BAR
Alma Road, Brodick
Look out here for fresh fish - especially scallops, roast monkfish and sea bass - on the daily-changing blackboard menu. Also a range of other choices, varying from day to day, which might include a roast rack of Arran lamb, Arran beef steaks and a special dish of Arran pheasant breasts, stuffed with a mushroom and onion mixture, wrapped in a flaky pastry crust and served with a rich Maderia sauce. This is a large, busy, informal and friendly bar, off the main street but opposite the Post Office. Though prices may be slightly higher than other bistro bar food on the island, the commitment here is to fresh ingredients and above average standards of cooking, which make it well worth the extra cost. Expect to pay £8-£14.00 for a meal. At lunchtime, there is a special snack menu which includes a bowl of satisfying soup and bread, or you can choose from the blackboard selection. There are also half-portions for the elderly. This is also one of the bars where cask Arran Beer from the brewery is available. Open all year. Lunch 12-2.30: Evening Monday-Thursday 5.30-9.00 Friday-Saturday 5.30-10.30
