Up six miles of bumpy forest track and suddenly there is a clearing and a small stone cottage. There's a flurry of hens - stunning jet black birds with scarlet cockscombs. In a field nearby, a flock of fluffy yellow baby (Christmas) geese are waddling about. Oxford Sandy (orange) and Black spotted pigs are rooting in the surrounding forest. The Glister's free range farmed animals, which also include goats, sheep, rabbits and guinea fowl, enjoy the perfect location.


"When people come up here they think that what we're doing is so different, " says David Glister. "But we're not different at all. It's what's happened in animal livestock rearing in the last fifty years that's different. We're just doing it the way it's always been done."

Product Range: Free range pork (half pigs), kid, lamb, chicken, guinea fowl, rabbits and geese and turkeys for Christmas.

Distribution: Retail orders delivered throughout the island. Ads in the Arran Banner indicate availability. Also sell trays of eggs to caterers. Mail Order. On Arran: Harold's Restaurant (Distillery, Lochranza) use chickens. Brodick Bar, Lillybank (Lamlash), Breadalbane Hotel (Kildonan) take half pigs regularly.
